All of our animals are raised right here on our 8th-generation family farm in Colrain, Massachusetts. Our beef cattle spend the spring, summer, and fall grazing on our multigenerational pastures, and through the winter, they’re fed hay that we’ve harvested ourselves during the warmer months. It’s a simple, sustainable cycle that allows us to care for the land while producing high-quality food year-round.
The animals themselves are a big part of what makes this farm special. Our cattle are well cared for, many of them have names, and they’re handled regularly—often brushed and interacted with—so they’re calm, friendly, and comfortable around people. Our chickens are truly free-range and cared for daily, with attention to their health, safety, and natural behaviors.
Farming has always been something this family takes pride in—not just for our own table, but for the community around us. We believe in raising animals with respect and intention, and in providing food you can feel good about feeding your family.

Small-Batch Beef Tallow Skincare Products
At Forebears North, skincare begins with respect—for tradition, the land, and the animals that sustain us. Our small-batch tallow products are made using carefully rendered beef fat sourced from pasture-raised animals on our family farm in Colrain, Massachusetts—an 8th-generation farm rooted in ethical, hands-on stewardship.
The name Forebears North reflects the heart behind everything we make. “Forebears” honors those who came before us—the generations who lived closer to the land and understood how to use simple, whole ingredients to care for their bodies. “North” represents a guiding direction, like the North Star—something steady that helps point us back to those older, time-tested ways of doing things. Together, it’s a reminder to look back in order to move forward with intention.
Tallow has been used for generations as a deeply nourishing skin ingredient, valued for its compatibility with the skin’s natural structure. Rich in fat-soluble vitamins and beneficial fatty acids, it supports the skin barrier—helping to restore moisture, improve texture, and protect against environmental stressors.
Each product is thoughtfully formulated with a minimalist approach. We use a short list of ingredients—primarily organic oils, botanicals, and traditional additions like pine resin—chosen for their function and skin-supportive properties. Every formulation is designed to be effective without unnecessary fillers, stabilizers, or synthetic additives.
